What Healthlink is

Healthlink is Ireland's national health messaging service, operated as part of the HSE, which carries clinical messages such as GP referrals, lab results, and hospital correspondence between practices and hospitals. GP referrals travel over Healthlink as structured HL7 v2.4 messages.

How Neutropy connects

Neutropy reads incoming Healthlink GP referrals in their native HL7 v2.4 format, extracting the structured referral, provider, and priority fields deterministically before any processing. Patient identifiers are stripped before any free-text clinical section is interpreted, and only anonymised text is ever passed to a model. The result is a clean, structured referral that Neutropy can act on and book into the hospital's PMS or EHR.

In practice

An Irish hospital or clinic receives GP referrals through Healthlink as HL7 v2.4 messages that a person would otherwise open, read, and re-key. Neutropy ingests the Healthlink referral directly, parses it into structured data, calls the patient, and books the appointment into the destination PMS or EHR. The referral moves from Healthlink inbox to booked appointment automatically, with no manual re-keying and no patient data exposed to a language model.
